Our Sustainability Journey

As a team of designers helping businesses to quite literally design their future, it’s only right that sustainability influences it.

It’s our responsibility to not only clients, but the planet, to educate ourselves on eco-friendly practices, products and solutions that we can incorporate into our client’s schemes. We find partners and suppliers who share our ethos and invest into the creation of sustainable innovations and alternatives.

We ourselves are on a journey to finding ways in which to make sustainable choices in everything we do, not just the schemes we design.

“Good design is sustainable, great design is responsible.”

— Richard Wittschiebe

Ecologi.

We work with ecologi, an environmental organisation, to fund tree planting and carbon avoidance. Ecologi are a B-Corp certified organisation and so far, we have donated 180 trees and supported the prevention of 13 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted through 2 verified carbon avoidance projects. The two projects we have donated to are ‘Capturing waste biogas for energy in Turkey’ which will avoid 30,153 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year and a wind power project in Mexico, which has educated over 1,000 children about the importance and value of nature.

Partners.

It’s not all about us, but the wider network of partners and suppliers that we choose to work with. Each of our suppliers have their own environmental and sustainability policies, investing their resources into developing products that are more environmentally-friendly and processes that are more green and much more efficient. Many of those we partner with are able to educate us even further on ways in which to support sustainability in our client’s schemes.

Samples.

The samples we no longer need - of which there are many throughout the year - don’t go to waste! We return samples where we can and donate unwanted samples to local schools who are able to use them in their arts and crafts projects.

Some of our favourite sustainable innovations

Sustainable Fabric by Camira
  • Created with a conscience, Quest is a continuation of Camira’s partnership with the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE to combat marine plastic pollution. Waste made wonderful, this lightly textured fabric is woven entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic - transforming it into a fabric as fluid as the waves by which it was inspired, and which it seeks to save.

Product created from PET packaging waste
  • As its name suggests, Spectra is an illuminating product – in every sense of the word. Created from PET packaging waste with elements of Kaleido, colourful, energetic fragments of Spectra’s previous life running through its core. While its creation may be rooted in a rather uncertain present, though, this beautiful material undoubtedly lights the way to a brighter future.

Naturemoss wall by Innerspace Cheshire
  • Innerspace’s Naturemoss are sustainably harvested from managed forests and preserved using eco friendly materials. With a variety of different styles to choose from there’s a moss wall made for every project!

Recycleable carpet tiles by Desso
  • Desso Recharge and Retrace carpet tiles are 100% recyclable and have been designed to be disassembled allowing its components to be easily recycled. Both collections possess different textures but share a warm earthy colour palette, allowing them to be used in harmony.

“One of the most visible polluters of the ocean, an estimated 1.2 million plastic bottles are used each minute, and, with just 12% of these being correctly recycled, many end up in landfill, or find their way into water. In the display (visible in the photograph), 26 and 23 PET bottles illustrate the number used to create a metre of Oceanic and Quest respectively”.
